RHONA LK SCHONWALD

Photography is a discipline that has many personae. With the “simple” click of a camera, an image is created, maybe for documenting an important world news event or for holding on to precious moments with loved ones. In the works of photographer-sculptor painter Rhona LK Schonwald, photography is, like all her work, stimulation for the imagination. Works may be of reflections, such as water, puddles or even double-exposed windows. Photographs may be close-ups of everyday objects that with the right composition and perspective become a “non-entity,” so that the viewer has no idea of the actual subject.

The famous French author Marcel Proust said, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes.” This is exactly what Schonwald hopes and strives to convey through her photography. As with all her creative endeavors, expanding the horizons of imagination is key to who the visual artist is, as well as what she creates.

The images displayed are designed to be rotated multiple ways, encouraging the viewer to interpret the subject matter through their own lens.

GAPPA FINE ART GLASS

Gappa Fine Art Glass specializes in working with homeowners, business owners and interior designers to create one-of-a-kind commission pieces for private residences and commercial properties. Combining architectural training with innovative artistry, founder David Gappa is a master at transforming glass into fine art sculptures, chandeliers, tabletops, pendant lights, decanters, wall sconces and displays. “I have found that the passion of my life is working with the shifting energies of molten glass into its final stages of artistic completion. Glassblowing, for me, is a magical act of translating the ethereal into solid form. The creation of each piece is a journey, as I strive to trust in the path that the glass chooses for me,” says Gappa.

Employing a turnkey process—concept, design, installation—each commission is original and customized for the client and the space. His pieces of art glass can be found and purchased at Vetro Glassblowing Studio & Fine Art Gallery in Grapevine, Texas. Gappa Fine Art Glass brings the ancient art of glassblowing to life with a modern twist.

JENNIFER LASHBROOK

Jennifer Lashbrook has carved out an incredibly unique style for herself by using individually cut paper paint chips that are collaged to create pixilated images of landscapes, cityscapes, portraits and famous works of art. From a distance the colors blend to create a photo-realistic quality, with each “pixel” becoming more distinguishable the closer the viewer moves toward the piece. When viewed up close, the meticulous arrangement of the paper is truly impressive. When viewed through a cellphone or at a distance, the images become clear and details seem to jump off of the viewing plane, shocking the viewer while displaying Gestalt psychology and how your brain connects the dots (or squares in this case) based on experience. The cellphone acts as a filter, and this unique way to view Lashbrook’s art creates a fun and interactive experience for the viewer. Her work is a modern twist on impressionism and sure to inspire conversation amongst its admirers.

Lashbrook has received international recognition for this unique concept. She is featured on Forbes contemporary artist list, two of her pieces grace the set of Empire on Fox, Beats on Netflix acquired a work for its set, as did HGTV’s International House Hunters, and her works are in many private and public collections worldwide.

Lashbrook’s private Dallas gallery is available by appointment, and she accepts a few exclusive commissions yearly. Contact the artist directly at jennifer@jenniferlashbrook.com.

PETER TOTH CONTEMPORARY FINE ART

Peter Toth is a “photo impressionist,” an abstract painter and a recent Dallas-area transplant from the East Coast. Specializing in a digital layering technique, he sometimes uses as many as 30 layers to create his impressionistic looking photographs. His mixed media abstract paintings may use acrylics, oils, pastels and a wide range of textural materials, like burlap, cheesecloth, photos, portland cement and many others, to achieve his unique effects.

The artist’s goal is to embody a delicate, lyrical sensitivity that enhances the emotive tone and overall mood, making each image more thought-provoking and timeless. Notes Toth, “I’m more interested in expressing an image’s inner nature – its soul, its energy and its spirit – than its reality.”

His canvases are a synthesis of color, composition, movement and a harmony of textures that create unique color effects and psychological, intellectual and emotional experiences, each with a story of its own. “Collectors have told me that they enjoy getting lost in my images and find joy and respite from a hectic world,” says Toth.

An award-winning artist for more than 30 years, his work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the country, and his art can be found in numerous private and corporate collections around the globe. Toth has completed many commissioned pieces to suit the unique needs of collectors, architects, developers and interior designers.

DEBRA PAYSINGER

DEBRA Paysinger’s master’s degree in biology has informed her subject matter, as she primarily paints birds, lures, sea life and rabbits – or the raddits, as she endearingly refers to them. She owns the registered trademark for the term “the raddit” and each whimsical creation is uniquely numbered within the painting.

Paysinger assigns a not-to-be-repeated human name to each expressive bird she paints. These names are found on the back of each work. These striking animal portraits stand on their own yet have a grounded familiarity with the others. It’s as if Paysinger knows the personality of every raddit and bird and finds a way to let that personality shine through. Paysinger paints and sells what she loves – and nothing could make her happier.

You can find Paysinger’s art in Studio 151 Fine Arts Gallery on Church Street in Charleston, at Over the Mantel Gallery on Carlisle Street in Columbia, and at Abode Home 2 in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
